Fall Centerpiece

September 26, 2022

If you look around my home, you’ll find that blue and white is one of my decorating staples. Over the years I’ve acquired several different pieces and have an inclination to browse any blue and white decor when shopping. I found this stunning decorative chinoiserie ginger jar at my local Tuesday Morning and knew it would be perfect for my fall centerpiece.

My inspiration this fall included blueberries, pumpkins, and sunflowers. I shopped at several different stores for the flowers, greenery, and the rest of my supplies. I selected various types of foliage to help develop texture in the arrangement. By inserting a few branches, I was able to add movement to the overall design.

Materials Needed

  • Blue and white ginger jar
  • Oval grapevine wreath
  • White pumpkins
  • Blueberry picks
  • Sunflowers
  • Flowers
  • Greenery
  • Floral foam
  • Floral stem cutters
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Center the blue and white ginger jar on your table and place the grapevine wreath around it.
  2. Cut two pieces of floral foam to fit on the table in between the wreath and the jar.
  3. Remove the price tag stickers from any flowers or greenery that will be used.
  4. Use the floral cutters to cut the flowers, leaves, and greenery off the stem.
  5. Position the greenery and flowers in the foam around the jar.
  6. Add florals to the grapevine wreath and build the base of the arrangement.
  7. Continue to fill in the base of the arrangement by using leaves and other greenery.
  8. Add the sunflower and pumpkins to fill in the centerpiece.
  9. Position curly branches.
  10. Cover exposed floral foam with any additional greenery or florals.
  11. Make any adjustments to the positioning of your flowers.

Sewing a Table Runner

August 25, 2022

Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for. This year I plan to incorporate one of my blue and white vases along with sunflowers into my fall table decor. However, I needed a new table runner to tie it all together. My table has two leaves to extend it and undoubtedly, I can’t ever find a storebought runner long enough. So, I decided to learn how to sew my own table runner.

Before going to Hobby Lobby to purchase my fabric, I measured the length of my table including both leaves. For my first table runner, I decided to sew a simple one piece rectangle. Before purchasing any fabric, I knew that I needed to have an accurate measurement. My total was 108 inches before factoring in extra for any overhang. Additionally, I added 9 inches per side for a total of 18 inches. After calculating the total length, I purchased a 3 and 1/2 yard piece of fabric. Lastly, the width of the material was cut down to 17 inches to have a final measurement of 16 inches with a 1/2 inch seam on both sides.

Materials Needed

  • Fabric
  • Wonder clips or pins
  • Sliding marker sewing gauge
  • Basic sewing machine
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Ruler
  • Serger (optional)

Instructions

  1. Iron the fabric.
  2. Trim off the selvage from your fabric.
  3. Cut the width of the table runner. For example, my runner is 16 inches and I cut the fabric at 17 inches to allow for a 1/2 inch seam on each side.
  4. Serge all four sides and trim off the excess thread tails.
  5. Use wonder clips and a sliding marker sewing gauge to clip (pin) your runner at a 1/2 inch.
  6. Sew a 1/2 inch seam on all sides of the napkin. Trim the thread tails at the end.
  7. Iron the runner to remove any creases.

Here’s the process on how to sew your own table runner.

Gift Card Holder

July 26, 2022

As the school year approaches, I wanted to send a little gift to my son’s teachers on the first day of school. Rather than just sending a gift card in an envelope, I opted to make something a little extra special. After scouring Pinterest for some theme ideas, I set out to create my gift card holder.

I used the Cricut Maker to cut all of the pieces for this project. The pencil image is one that I already owned from my previously linked cartridges. However, the image can be purchased for a nominal fee in the software. If you are interested in creating this project, I linked my design file under the materials needed section below.

Materials Needed

  • Design
  • Cardstock: pink, tan, black, yellow, light and dark grey
  • Cricut Maker
  • Perforation Blade
  • Cricut fine point pen: black
  • Adhesive
  • Gift card

Instructions

  1. First access the file from the link above.
  2. Following the directions, cut the design out of cardstock using the Cricut Maker.
  3. Next, assemble the front of the pencil with the adhesive of your choice.
  4. Attach the gift card to the holder.
  5. Glue the cardholder to the backside of the top pencil panel.
  6. Finally, glue the back panel of the pencil to the top. Make sure the tab that says pull is facing outward.

Table Centerpiece

May 24, 2022

Is there anything more gorgeous than a big, beautiful hydrangea bloom? Each year I eagerly anticipate the blooming season for the hydrangeas in my garden. I’ve always liked the look of the plush flowers and couldn’t wait to use them as a centerpiece for my dining room table.

I found this decorative urn at my local Tuesday Morning and knew it would make a perfect container for my floral arrangement. I chose white hydrangeas to be the focal point of my decoration. The crisp, clean look of the flowers draws your eye to this centerpiece. I kept my color palette to only three colors white, green, and light pink.

Materials Needed

  • Container
  • Flowers
  • Greenery
  • Floral foam
  • Floral stem cutters
  • Scissors
  • Moss vase filler
  • Floral pins
  • Bamboo skewer (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the price tag stickers from any flowers or greenery that will be used.
  2. Secure the floral foam into the container.
  3. Use the floral cutters to cut the flowers, leaves, and greenery off the stem.
  4. Depending on the type of floral foam, a bamboo skewer may be used to poke the placement holes for the flowers and greenery.
  5. Position the largest flowers into the foam.
  6. Fill in the base of the arrangement by using leaves and other greenery.
  7. Add additional flowers to fill in the centerpiece.
  8. Position curly branches.
  9. Cover exposed floral foam with moss vase filler and secure with floral pins.
  10. Make any adjustments to the positioning of your flowers.
  11. Place it on your table and enjoy!

Personalized Towel

May 17, 2022

When you have a toddler, decorating is not always easy. I wanted something pretty to accessorize my kitchen. So, is there anything better than a personalized hand towel? I found this gorgeous monogram design on Apex Embroidery’s website. I like that the letter is bold. The addition of the decorative stitching in a metallic thread around the letter gives the overall design an elegant look.
